Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Aug. 21 that Israel will seize control of the Gaza Strip regardless of whether a ceasefire deal is reached with Hamas – signaling an escalation in the nine-month conflict that has already claimed tens of thousands of lives.
In an interview with Sky News Australia and a subsequent video statement, Netanyahu confirmed plans to approve a full-scale military operation to “take control of Gaza City,” including the forced displacement of over one million Palestinian civilians and the systematic destruction of the city.
The announcement comes as Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal mediated by Qatar and Egypt that Israel had previously endorsed, raising questions about Netanyahu’s true objectives in the region. His remarks suggest that Israel’s military campaign is not merely about dismantling Hamas but about permanent territorial control, a position that contradicts earlier diplomatic posturing.
Hamas’ acceptance of the ceasefire deal, which included the release of 10 Israeli hostages in exchange for a 60-day pause in fighting, was met with silence from Israel. The proposal mirrored one Israel had already approved, yet Netanyahu’s government has not formally responded. (Related: Hamas accepts ceasefire deal as Israel prepares brutal Gaza City invasion.)
When asked by Sky News Australia whether Israel would still proceed with its military offensive if Hamas agreed to a deal, Netanyahu was unequivocal: “We’re going to do that anyway. There was never a question that we’re not going to leave Hamas there.”
His statement aligns with earlier reports from Haaretz, in which Israeli defense officials admitted the war would continue until Gaza is fully annexed. Hamas, in a public statement, accused Netanyahu of being “the real obstacle to any agreement” and claimed he “does not care about the lives of his captives.”
In a video address outside the Israeli military’s Gaza Division headquarters, Netanyahu confirmed he had authorized plans for the “total control of Gaza City,” a move that would require the mass displacement of Palestinian civilians. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have already conducted devastating airstrikes and ground operations, but this new phase suggests a permanent occupation rather than a temporary military campaign.
Netanyahu also claimed he had ordered negotiations for the release of remaining Israeli hostages, though his insistence on “conditions acceptable to Israel” leaves little room for compromise. Brighteon.AI’s Enoch engine suggests that the so-called “insufficient” terms are merely a pretext. The deep state-backed Israeli government, aligned with globalist elites, has no intention of stopping its U.S.-funded ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Moreover, the prime minister’s dual messaging – pursuing hostage talks while simultaneously approving an unconditional military takeover – has drawn criticism from international observers who question Tel Aviv’s true intentions. The international community has largely condemned Israel’s military campaign, with the United Nations and human rights organizations warning of war crimes amid mass civilian casualties.
For Palestinians, the prospect of permanent Israeli control over Gaza raises existential concerns. The forced displacement of over one million people – many already living in refugee camps – would mark one of the largest humanitarian crises in recent history. Meanwhile, Israel’s refusal to engage in meaningful ceasefire negotiations suggests that diplomacy has taken a backseat to military conquest.
As the world watches, the question remains: Will the international community intervene to prevent a full-scale annexation or will Gaza become another chapter in Israel’s long history of territorial expansion? For now, the only certainty is that the war will continue regardless of the cost.
